Christianity came to Kerala early. According to tradition the Apostle Thomas landed on the coast of Kerala in the 1st century. Whatever, the church in Kerala is older than the church in Europe. It was also in Kerala that the first democratically elected communist government in the world came to power in the late fifties. The South of India – a world of amazing fusions, a world that through the years has found a special place in my heart. The people here did not call me sahib, but always received me with great kindness. I felt as if I was being carried on palanquins. That is the South of India – gentle, endearing and ever so charming.
